A polymerization initiator is the source of any chemical that reacts with a monomer to form an intermediate compound that can be continuously linked to a large number of other monomers to form a polymerization compound. Polymeric persulfates are a group of chemically active compounds that contain one peroxide group per sulfur atom in their molecular structure. Persulfate is also called an alkali metal salt produced by an electrochemical method. These persulfates release oxygen, which is why these compounds are used as initiators and oxidants. The physical appearance of persulfate types is based on oxidation requirements and price because the functional characteristics of these materials remain the same and are interchangeable in most applications. There are three types of persulfates, namely ammonium, sodium and potassium.
